Via Li is a painter based in Cupertino, CA.

My artwork addresses women's emotions and the challenges and injustice they face daily. My work explores the power hidden behind feelings and represents how women handle and harness emotions.

I strive for immediacy in my work. Whenever I am feeling something strongly, I try my best to capture that emotion right away on the canvas, in that very moment. I find that the most powerful art is the art that is closest to that immediate, pure rush of emotion. If one tries to recapture and translate those feelings later, after the intensity has passed, it tends to not have the same result. 

I like to think my work acts as a sort of recording of my life. Each of us is built by our own unique experiences, but by using myself as a subject in my work, I hope to become a conduit that can speak to the wider and more universal experiences of women as a whole.

Drawing on my own life experiences, I wish to encourage viewers to contemplate and confront their own conflicted feelings and thoughts within the artwork, a place where beauty and pain sometimes finds an unexpected relationship.
